# Archie MCP

> The Archie MCP is a platform-wide assistant for managing Archie itself. You sign in with your Archie account and work across your projects, organizations, and environments — including administrative actions — from an AI assistant.

The **Archie MCP** is a platform-wide connector. You sign in with your **Archie account** and an assistant like Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT can help you **manage Archie itself** — browse your projects, organizations, and environments, explore any project's API, and run administrative actions.

It is distinct from the per-project [MCP Server](https://archie.com/docs/features/backend/app-services/mcp-server/client-mcp): the Archie MCP spans everything your account can reach and includes management tools; the MCP Server is scoped to one project and is data-only.

## Connect it

The Archie MCP is added as a **custom connector by URL** and authenticates with your Archie account.

**Connection URL**

```
https://mcp.services.archie.com/mcp
```

**1. Add the connector**

In your assistant, open its connectors settings (for example, **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector** in Claude) and paste the connection URL above.

**2. Sign in**

A window opens — sign in with your **Archie account** and approve access.

**3. Ask**

The assistant can now help you navigate and manage your projects and organizations.

For **Claude Code** (the CLI), add it from your terminal:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http archie https://mcp.services.archie.com/mcp
```

## Authentication

The Archie MCP authenticates with **OAuth 2.1**. When you add the connector, your assistant opens a browser window where you **sign in with your Archie account**; the assistant then holds a token and calls the server on your behalf. There is no key to paste.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The Archie MCP acts with **your** platform access — the same projects, organizations, and permissions you have when you sign in to Archie. It doesn't grant new access. Sharing the connector doesn't share your session: each person signs in as themselves.

## Tools

Because the Archie MCP is platform-wide, it exposes the **full** tool set — account navigation, API exploration, data, and management — not just the data-only floor the [MCP Server](https://archie.com/docs/features/backend/app-services/mcp-server/client-mcp#tools) exposes. Clients group them as **read-only** or **write**.

**Account & platform** — get your bearings across Archie:

| Tool | Type | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| `whoami` | Read | Returns your identity and what you can access. |
| `list_projects` | Read | Lists your projects. |
| `list_organizations` | Read | Lists your organizations. |
| `list_environments` | Read | Lists a project's environments. |

**API & data** — explore a project's schema and work with its data:

| Tool | Type | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| `list_operations` | Read | Lists the queries and mutations in a project's GraphQL API. |
| `get_field_details` | Read | Returns the fields and arguments of a type. |
| `list_database_objects` | Read | Lists tables, views, and enums in a project. |
| `get_database_object` | Read | Returns the definition of a specific database object. |
| `semantic_search` | Read | Searches data by meaning, when [vector search](https://archie.com/docs/features/backend/data-model/data-viewer.md) is enabled. |
| `read_archie_docs` | Read | Looks up Archie product documentation. |
| `execute_graphql_operation` | Write | Runs a GraphQL query or mutation against a project. |
| `get_context` / `set_context` | Read / Write | Read and set the current project and environment scope. |

**Management** — administrative actions on a project:

| Tool | Type | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| `manage_api_keys` | Write | Create and delete project API keys. |
| `manage_roles` | Write | Create and delete roles. |
| `manage_authentication` | Write | Enable, update, and disable authentication providers. |
| `manage_file_storage` | Write | Configure file storage. |
| `manage_notifications` | Write | Enable and disable notifications. |

> [!WARNING]
>
> The management tools make real changes to your project (keys, roles, authentication, storage). Keep your assistant's **write approvals** on so a write is confirmed before it runs. Every action is still bounded by your own platform access — the Archie MCP can never do more than you can.

## Archie MCP vs. MCP Server

| | Archie MCP | [MCP Server](https://archie.com/docs/features/backend/app-services/mcp-server/client-mcp) |
| - | - | - |
| **Scope** | Your whole account — all projects and organizations | One project |
| **Sign-in** | Your Archie account (OAuth) | The project's sign-in or a project API key |
| **Tools** | Full set — account, API, data, **management** | Data-only floor |
| **Use it to** | Manage the platform | Work with a project's **data** |

To connect an assistant to a single project's data — for your project's own users and agents — enable and use the [MCP Server](https://archie.com/docs/features/backend/app-services/mcp-server/client-mcp) instead.
